Meeting of Tuesday, June 21, 2005
We had a full house at our meeting on the first day of summer. Our theme today was Midsummer Moments and we were capably led by Toastmaster Rebecca We were also treated to a visit from a former member returning as a guest; it was good to see you, Raynald
Angie provided us some new vocabulary with the Word of the Day: Quincunx (noun): an arrangement of five things in a square or rectangle with one at each corner and one in the middle.
Guy L. provided a Quote of the Day aligned with the theme: I stand in the circle of life this day, Blessed beyond all measure, I dance in the circle of life this day, Surrounded by natures treasure, By wild rose fire I am now blessed, By Beings of fur and feather, May the feather on my life path now fly free, And fly into forever! (Poppy Palin, Craft of the wild witch).
We then heard from Gisèle with the objectives for our first speaker. Alexandra then regaled us with her fifth CTM speech, Let's Do the Time Warp Again! The audience was almost dancing by the end of the speech and all agreed it was a great way to express a wide range of vocal variety.
We were then treated to Tabletopics, led by Guy D. He encouraged three volunteers, Raynald, Sharon, and Kathryn, to creatively describe their reactions to possible scenarios for their summer holidays.
Next up was some club business from John S., who provided plaques of recognition to the outgoing Executive Council for 2004/05 and then name cards to the incoming Executive Council for 2005/06. On her return to the lectern, the Toastmaster led the company in a round of appreciate applause for the efforts of outgoing president John S.
John S. returned to the lectern to ask some questions as Quizmaster, in order to test the listening skills of all present. Then we moved into the evaluation portion of the meeting.
This commenced with Gisèle's evaluation of Alexandra's speech. Very successful all around, from the sounds of it. And next up was Marcin and his meeting evaluation team of Gao and Hai.
It was a very successful meeting. Rebecca came back to inform all of the agenda line-up for the next meeting and we adjourned at 13:00
Looking forward to seeing you on June 28!
